Kohli, who took home the Indian of the Year 2017 Award at the CNN-News18’s award function shared a moment from the 2014 tour to Australia when he was the captain in the absence of the injured MS Dhoni.
Speaking at the awards function, Kohli spoke about a conversation from dressing room on the fourth day of the Adelaide Test.
"Whatever target they give us tomorrow, we're going for it. If there's any hesitation or anyone wants to oppose it, you tell me right now, or we go to our rooms knowing we're going to meet the target. So it hurt a lot not to cross the line, but it gave us a lot of confidence as a team that we could win anywhere," Kohli said.
The captain pointed that the century he scored in the second innings of that Adelaide Test was in fact the most memorable one out of the 51 he has amassed so far. Kohli hammered 141 against the Aussies, but could not help India polish off the chase. India needed 364 in the fourth innings and lost by 48 runs.
"There have been so many, but purely in terms of the transition, the second innings hundred at Adelaide where we almost won the Test match..." Kohli said.
Up next for India are the Sri Lankans again in the third Test at New Delhi beginning Saturday, where they seek a record equaling ninth straight series win.
India currently lead 1-0 in the three-match series and victory in the New Delhi Test would cap off a dominant year and equal Australia's record of nine consecutive series victories from 2005 to 2008.
After the Sri Lanka series, India travel to South Africa where they will look to better the record once they equal it in New Delhi. It was in 2015 against Sri Lanka that India begin this victory march.
