DHAKA: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq passed away at a hospital in London Thursday (November 30).
He was 65.
Annisul breathed his last at Wellington Hospital, at 10:23pm Bangladesh time.
He was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis, swelling of the blood vessel wall involving the brain and occasionally the spinal cord.
Eventually he lost the battle after undergoing treatment there for almost three months.
Earlier, the mayor went to London accompanying his family members, on July 29.
He was admitted to the hospital on August 16.
However, his first namaj-e-janaja will be held at Regent Park Central Mosque after Juma prayers Friday (December 1), said DNCC Public Relations office sources.
His body is scheduled to be brought here by a Biman Bangladesh flight, at around 11:20am Saturday (December 2). His second namaj-e-janaja will be held at Army Stadium after Asr prayer the same day. He is expected to be buried at Banani Graveyard.
Born in 1952, Annisul established his own business in 1986 and was the chairperson of nine export-oriented organizations under the trade name ‘Mohammadi Group’.
He also served as the president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) from 2005 to 2006, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) from 2008 to 2010 and Bangladesh Independent Power Producers Association (BIPPA) and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industries from 2010 to 2012.
Annisul assumed as the DNCC Mayor after sealing victory in the 2015 mayoral polls bearing the slogan ‘Green Dhaka, Clean Dhaka’.
He also earned popularity as a TV personality, back in the days.
However, Annisul left behind his wife Rubana Huq, two daughters, a son and huge well wishers to mourn his death.
