HYDERABAD: Taking a dig at the BJP government at the Centre, deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari has said that even though the Centre is raising the ‘Beti bachao, Beti padhao’ scheme, there is little that is being translated to action. Interacting with the principals of Model schools and Gurukuls on Thursday, the minister said there are 194 model schools and 544 Gurukuls in the state on which the TRS government spends `218 crore and `11,000 crore annually, respectively.
“To felicitate education for 90 per cent of its poor, minorities and working-class people, the TRS government has established the Model schools and the Gurukuls. Of these six Gurukuls were upgraded into junior colleges this year and 29 others will be upgraded the next year. In addition, two more Gurukuls, one each for boys and girls has been sanctioned in all 31 districts of the state,” he said.
“The educational institutions should aim for 100 per cent CGPA and thereby achieve the top position in the state. The minster also insisted that schools should focus on producing NEET and JEE rank-holders,” he said. In addition to academics, the minister said separate funds have been allocated for promoting sports in educational institutions and will be increased in the next year.
“Medical examination of students has to be done regularly and health cards to be issued to them. It is my responsibility to provide these facilities to the Model Schools and Gurukuls, “ Srihari said. After the Contributory Pension Scheme, the minister said Services Rules for teachers in these schools will soon be finalised.
