Hours after voting for Urban Local Bodies ended on Sunday evening, Aligarh was gripped by communal tension after a local Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) functionary's brother was sprayed with bullets in the crowded Banna Devi locality.
Senior officers backed by police rushed to the spot and had a tough time controlling the anger of locals agitated with the killing. Later a case was registered against two persons and the top offiocers somehow defused the situation by assuring to arrest the culprits at earliest. On Monday, both named accused were arrested.
As per reports, said that RSS leader Indrahas Chauhan's brother Shashi Chauhan was was sitting at his friend’s house in Nai Basti locality of Banni Devi, when some motorcycle borne miscreants reached there and opened indiscriminate firing taregting Shashi and later fled the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Shashi is also a close relative of former minister Thakur Jaiveer Singh.
News of Shashi being peppered with bullets spread like wild fire and within no time, hundred of RSS and BJP leaders and workers converged at the scene and staged a huge demonstration.
In a complaint to the police, the victim's kin named Shakeel and Sajid as the perpetrators of the dastardly killing after which a case was registered. Finally on Mondayafternoon, both accused were arrested from their house in Banna Devi.
Aligarh was also rocked by a sensational daylight dacoity on Monday.
About half a dozen armed miscreants barged into the house of Jagdish at Padiyawali in Madrak locality in the afternoon. The miscreants assaulted the inmates and later locked them inside a room. The brigands stashed ornaments and goods worth several lakh rupees and Rs 25,000 in cash before fleeing the spot. A case was registered but no breakthrough could be made.
Meanwhile in Mathura, a priest of a temple was found murdered under mysterious circumstances on Monday morning. As per reports, temple priest Bhurja locality of Maath, Ramdas (70) was found lying in a pool of blood inside his residence on Monday morning. The police reached there after learning of the incident. After preliminary investigation, the police claimed that circumstantial evidences hinted that thevictim had a fight with someone, who later hacked him to death with a sharp edged weapon.
The cops suspected a property dispute could be the possible motive behind the killing. The priest was engaged in a land dispute with a local villager and the case was pending in a court. A case was registered and investigations are on.
