Comic book takes look at nitty-gritty of brand management

A comic book, billed as the first on brand management, captures the journey of young people at big corporate houses and their transformation to share chasers in pursuit of profit and fame.

"Building the Perfect Beast: What Really Happens in Brand Management", written by Nivea's Managing Director Neil George, has more than 400 anime-based illustrations and follows the lives of some marketing interns tasked with creating the ultimate brand strategy while working in a agency.

While the story is based in London, it has characters like a Chinese immigrant, a South African supermodel and others - all fighting it out in a brand management firm to be the best.

So, why a comic book?

"I had been raised from childhood on a diet of comics, movies and American sitcoms Tintin, Asterix, Archies, Phantom, Wonder Years, Mad and Garfield to name a few," says George.

According to him, he spent hours and days evaluating advertising storyboards, attending television commercial shoots and working with some of the big names in the adverting and graphics design world.

"Friends and family gave me above average scores for my photography and calligraphy skills," he says.

This made him think that he could create visuals and tell a story.

"The idea downed on me," he says and thus the book came into being.

Published by Power Publishers and Omnikarma Productions, the book uses fantasy elements and is in dark art style.

The plot centres around 10 typical protagonists from the world of brand marketing in the global consumer goods' firm - five marketing interns, one tough boss, a superhero-like VP as well as background characters in the form of friends and colleagues.
