The eight-hour hartal, called by left leaning parties, protesting the power tariff hike, ended peacefully without any unwanted incidents on Thursday.

Law enforcers were deployed in major points of the city to avoid any trouble.

Police arrested 10-12 activists of left parties from different parts in the city as they tried to stop vehicular movement.

In Savar, activists of left-leaning student organizations blocked Dhaka-Aricha hihway at Joy Bangla gate of the Jahangirnagar University for two hours.

UNB adds: In Gazipur, the movement of public transports in the city is normal but the number of private vehicles is less than the other normal days.
