Chelsea boss Antonio Conte praises Manchester City… but was he mocking Pep Guardiola?

CHELSEA boss Antonio Conte has paid his “respects” to Manchester City after their late win over Southampton.

Antonio Conte thinks Manchester City deserve credit for their late win

The Blues, who have had a less than impressive start to their title defence, saw off at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The victory was marred by Conte being sent to the stands.

Meanwhile, City maintained their stunning run when they beat Southampton 2-1.

However, they required a strike from Raheem Sterling deep in stoppage time to secure all three points.

And when asked for his thoughts on City’s dramatic win, Conte said: “They won again at the end [96th minute].

I have a great respect for a team that doesn’t give up until the end

Antonio Conte

“I remember another game against Bournemouth and Huddersfield. Sterling is very dangerous.

“I have a great respect for a team that doesn’t give up until the end.

“If they win these games it means they trust until the end. They are doing something incredible, sometimes you can be lucky but it is normal.

“We have to go game by game and we are improving from the season.

“We have a good balance and we had a lot of good chances.”

City’s late show means they have re-opened their eight point cushion over Manchester United at the top of the table, with the Blues three points behind Jose Mourinho’s men in third.
