Designer Masaba Gupta to interview The Crown cast, hopes to find insights into Queen Elizabeth II's life
Indian fashion designer Masaba Gupta has been roped in by a video-streaming giant to anchor an interview with the leading ladies of The Crown - Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby - in London. The conversation is part of a round of promotions for the show, a biographical story about the reign of UK's Queen Elizabeth II, as it enters its second season. Chronicling her love for the series, Gupta tells mid-day from the Brit capital, "The team suggested that it would be unusual if I interviewed them. It's an honour. I am eager to know what it's like to play a living Queen. The Royal family is among the most iconic in the world, so, this opportunity is vital."

Gupta's selection for the job may seem peculiar until one learns that immense detailing has gone into crafting the attires for the show. "I will focus on the costumes [while penning the questions]. One has to be careful about detailing when dealing with shows like these. I have an interesting mix of questions about Claire's [who plays the Queen] personal style. As for Vanessa, who plays Princess Margaret, I will enquire about the character's flamboyance. There is a stark difference in their sense of fashion and personalities. So, I will find out about how she took to the characters."

The show entices Gupta due to the shielded life that the Queen leads. "She is guarded. She has seen people evolve - be it in her family or society. She is the longest reigning monarch and her life is full of interesting details. There is so much about her and Prince Philip [husband] that remains out of the public eye." The second season of the Netflix show, says Gupta, will offer insights into the various aspects of her life. "I will also ask Claire how she prepped for the character as she grows to become a monarch." Gupta will attend the red carpet event, which will be followed by a lavish party. "I am not sure what I will wear for the do. It will be a design from one of my collections, a saree-gown, probably."
