TROY – The city is making another push to redevelop the former Leonard Hospital site. Mayor Patrick Madden said the city issued a request for proposals to redevelop the 7.1 acre site.
“The demolition of the Leonard Hospital property presents a unique opportunity for interested developers to make a real contribution to enhance the landscape of Troy’s Lansingburgh neighborhood and positively shape the future of our city,” Madden said in a statement.
The city will borrow $2.5 million to demolish the former hospital next year after multiple failed attempts to redevelop it. The city is also spending at least $160,000 to secure the property.
The city has been sued multiple times by people who were hurt while on the vacant property.
Last year the city proposed selling the building for $1 to The Community Builders, which would have built a mixed-income apartment complex on the site. The hospital closed over 20 years ago and has since been a draw for homeless and vandals.
