Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, for the first time, will be carrying out a study of roads.
The project has got the administration approval, and the tender will be floated by next week.
Mohan Dagoankar, city engineer, said, the tendering and issue of work order will be completed in about a month. “With the growing number of vehicles, it is important to have a roadmap to reduce the number of accidents.”
The corporation has earmarked ₹40 lakh for the survey, which will cover 100 kilometres of roads with heavy traffic like Thane-Belapur road, Amra Marg, extension of Palm Beach Road, Shivaji Chock–Turbhe road, and Airoli–Mulund road. The analysis will be over in four months from the date of the issue of work order.
“A geometric roadway design study will be carried out in which alignment of road, profile, and cross-section will be studied. This will help the civic body give a three-dimensional layout for a roadway. Besides, signatures, blind turns, black spots, and streetlights will be studied,” Mr. Dagoankar said.
Following a report by experts, changes will be done on priority.
This will be the second such study after IIT-Bombay conducted a survey on a 10-km stretch on Palm Beach Road between 2010 and 2011.
