Arrested LeT terrorist Sheikh Abdul Nayeem received funds from Pakistan, UAE

Sheikh Abdul Nayeem was a runaway terrorist wanted in connection with the activities of the dreaded LeT in various parts of India.  He was arrested in Lucknow on Wednesday morning.

Arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Sheikh Abdul Nayeem - alias Nomi - recieved funds from Pakistan and the UAE, sources in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told India Today.

Nayeem has been associated with LeT Commander Amzad - or Rehan, who is based in Pakistan - and received funds from LeT operatives based in UAE for setting up bases in different parts of India.

He also reportedly did extensive reconnaissance of different tourist destinations in Delhi, UP and Himachal Pradesh with a mission to carry out terror attacks. Referred to as Headley 2, he recorded videos of Army Camps, power plants and Israeli tourists in India.

Along with the Uttar Pradesh ATS, the NIA recovered incriminating documents, mobile phone and bank account details from Nayeem. He is an accused in the Aurangabad Arms haul case. He had been earlier arrested by the West Bengal police in the year 2007 while he was infiltrating into India from Bangladesh along with two Pakistanis and one Kashmiri. He had escaped from judicial custody in Chhattisgarh area while he was being taken by train to Mumbai to be produced in the MCOCA Court in the year 2014.

The 37-year-old, a resident of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, was a runaway terrorist wanted in connection with the activities of the dreaded LeT in various parts of India. Nayeem was arrested at Charbagh Bus Stand in Lucknow on Wednesday morning.

Produced before the Special NIA Court in Patiala House, he has been remanded to 10-day NIA custody.
