A 17-year-old was apprehended on November 25 for allegedly stabbing to death his 23-year-old cousin over the victim’s criticism of his drug addiction, the police said on Tuesday.
Kanjhawala resident Sajjan Singh was allegedly stabbed over 20 times by the minor on November 20. Mr. Singh’s relative submitted a murder complaint and expressed suspicion over the juvenile’s involvement as he had seen the duo together on November 19.
“The complainant was suspicious as the victim and the juvenile fought quite often,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) M. N. Tiwari, adding that a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) has been registered.
Tip-off
When the police started looking for the minor, they found he was absconding. Following a tip-off regarding his arrival at a bus stop in Chandpur to flee the city, the police apprehended him, said Mr. Tiwari.
The accused allegedly told them that his cousin belittled him in front of friends. “The boy claimed the victim insulted him in front of friends over his bad habits and drug addiction. They fought often because of that,” said Mr. Tiwari.
The victim recently threw the minor’s motorcycle in a canal in Majra Dabas after a fight. That’s when the accused decided to kill him. According to the police, the minor asked the victim to drink with him in a field on the night of November 19.
“Once the victim got inebriated, the accused stabbed him to death using a knife,” said Mr. Tiwari.
