On Tuesday, six men who worked in a catering service were found dead inside a tempo at Delhi's Cantonment area. Police said that the six men died of suffocation after they slept inside a tempo with a tandoor that was not put out. The police also added that the men were preparing food at a wedding function. Once they were done, they went to sleep inside the tempo in which they had brought their catering utensils, put the still lit tandoor inside to keep themselves warm and closed the tempo.
The deceased have been identified as Amit, Pankaj, Anil, who were from Rudrapur, Kamal from Nepal and Gorakhpur residents Avadhlal and Deep Chand, reports mention.
Nirmal Singh, their supervisor, woke up late night and tried to wake them up. When they did not respond, he informed the police. The men were rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where Amit, Pankaj, Anil and Kamal were declared brought dead. Avadhlal and Deep Chand died later that evening during treatment.
"During investigation, it was found that the victims had gone for catering work in a marriage function at a community centre in Delhi Cantt area. After the function got over, they carried all the cooking equipment, including a tandoor at the tempo trunk and went to another venue around 12.30 am on Mall Road," a report in India Today quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shibesh Singh.
Police have registered a case and have sent the bodies for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of the deaths.
