District-level debate competition on Dec 1, 2

Karwar: P S Kamath Memorial district-level inter-collegiate debate competition will be held on December 1 and 2 at Divekar College of Commerce, in Karwar.

Briefing reporters here, on Monday, Canara Welfare Trust President S P Kamath said, the debate competition is being held since last seven years to strengthen educational, cultural and social platform in the district, along with developing leadership quality among youth. This year, the topic is ‘Demonetisation helps to control black money’, he said.

As many as 22 competitors of all nine taluks in the district will take part in the competition on December 1, among which, six will be selected for final round. On December 2,final round winners will be given first, second and third prizes respectively, he said.

The first winner will carry home cash price of Rs 50,000, second Rs 30,000 and third Rs 20,000 respectively. All taluk level winners will be given Rs 2,000.

The competition will be held in three stages. Over 700 students of 90 colleges participated in the first level. The 162 candidates selected in first stage participated in second level (taluk level). In third level, 22 participants from all taluks will take part. 

On first day, Karavali Munjavu Editor Gangadhar Hiregutti, and on second day Social Activist Prashant Bhushan will be chief guests. The sponsor of district level competition, Supreme Court Advocate Devdutt Kamath will be present.
