The Uttarakhand Government has shown its readiness to organise winter games at Auli near Joshimath. If everything goes as per the plan, these games would be held from January 15 to 21.
The department of tourism which is entrusted with organising the event has asked the Winter Games Federation of India, a body of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to invite participation in these games.
The Tourism secretary, Dilip Jawalkar said that the ice making machine stationed at Auli to prepare ice for the event would be repaired soon. For maintenance of this machine, the department would take the approval of the State cabinet for entering into a single bid contract with the manufacturer of the machine. The machine was installed in the year 2009 prior to the South Asian Federation Winter Games. The machine is not operational now and in absence of vendors interested to repair it, the department is planning to hand over the task of repairing the machine on the manufacturer. The department would also put a proposal to clear a budget of Rs 12 Crore from the state assembly for the event. It is worth mentioning here that the International Ski Federation has given its nod to hold the event.
