The Nikon D5 is the best consumer-oriented DSLR of 2016. With class-leading speed of shooting and precise autofocus combined with great colour reproduction and ample sharpness, the Nikon D5 takes the cake for being the best DSLR camera of 2016. The heavy, bulky body is aided by touch input and wireless sharing standards, and all of this combine to make the Nikon D5 the best DSLR of 2016.

Canon’s flagship full-frame DSLR, the EOS 1DX Mark II, is equally proficient as the Nikon D5, but rank second best DSLR camera because of the slightly spiked reds and yellows that take colour accuracy slightly away from the source. Apart from that, it is equally fast and precise in terms of focus, and offers comparable ISO performance to the Nikon D5.

Canon’s most popular mainstream full-frame DSLR got a major upgrade in 2016 with a new, higher resolution sensor, full 4K video recording, better colours, high ISO invariance and more, while keeping the essence of simplistic usage constant. With all of this, there’s no reason to wonder why the 5D Mark IV ranks so high in our list of Top 10 DSLR camera in India.

The Nikon D810 actually produces equally good, or better colours than the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, but is slightly slower in terms of focusing. However, the main reason why this ranks behind its rival counterpart is because of the degree of ease in camera operations. The Nikon D810 is decidedly more geared towards the professional photographer, while with the EOS 5D Mark IV, you can even shoot without fiddling around with all of the settings.

The next in line among cameras that we have used and tested is the Nikon D500, which is also the best DSLR camera to have ever been made. Sharp colour accuracy, good retention of sharpness and low noise rendition, coupled with class-leading auto focus mechanism. The Nikon D500 is the first prosumer DSLR from Nikon in a long time that even pleases the professional veterans, and as a result, can even take on many full-frame DSLRs around, barring certain engineering limitations.

The Canon EOS 80D is one of the first APS-C sensor-powered DSLRs to use a Dual Pixel sensor, which not only improves significantly on focusing speed, but even low light photography. A new generation image processor has also led to better, more versatile shooting cases, and the Canon EOS 80D ranks here among the best DSLR camera made in 2016.

The Nikon D7200 offers excellent dynamic range, along with the familiar, mid-range APS-C body of Nikon’s much-loved D7000 lineup. The D7200 is slower in comparison to the later launches, but with its excellent colour reproduction, still makes for a highly competent DSLR to buy in India.

The Nikon D5500 has been a defining edge of sorts in the budget DSLR segment, since launch. Class-leading dynamic range, coupled with true-to-source colours, good ISO performance and fast and accurate focusing has made the D5500 a de facto recommendation for amateur photographers. The Nikon D5500 also has an incredibly light body, which is fun to shoot with.

The Sony A68 is surprisingly fun for entry-segment DSLRs. It shoots good colours, although the slightly spiked colours convert to traces of oversaturation once you convert RAW files to compressed formats without post-processing. The Sony A68 focuses really fast, and even excels at low light photography, making it a good recommendation in the budget category.

The Canon EOS 750D has been around for a while, and we chose this over the rather tiny EOS 100D because of the better colour reproduction and lesser noise in low light conditions. While colours do suffer slightly, the EOS 750D’s fluid touchscreen and wireless networks make it a very convenient DSLR to use.
