PU signs MoU with SEWA

CHANDIGARH: Professor Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Renana Jhabvala, President, SEWA Bharat today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly work towards empowerment of women through a holistic approach of action research in the presence of senior faculty members.

Sunanda Dikshit, Coordinator, Punjab Sewa Bharat and Professor Ramanjit Kaur Johal, Associate Director, Research Promotion Cell will be the coordinators of the MoU.


Giving a brief introduction regarding Sewa Bharat on this occasion, Jhabvala said that it is a federation of SEWA organization in India and is committed to empowerment of poor women through a holistic approach. "Its work begins with the needs and capabilities of the women themselves and strives to fulfill the needs which have been identified over the 45 years of SEWA's existence", she added.


The objective of this Memorandum of Understanding is to establish a framework for cooperative institutional relations to encourage and promote collaboration between the Parties for better empowerment and social and economic development of women in the State.


Ela Bhatt, Founder of SEWA, Chancellor, Gujarat Vidyapeeth and Mahatma Gandhi Chair Professor, Panjab University established the foundation for collaboration between these two organizations on her visit to Panjab University in October, 2016 when she delivered the Foundation Day Lecture.


Panjab University has been working with SEWA for the past year for youth leadership. Workshops have been conducted by Anubandh Foundation of SEWA in which 90 students have been trained. Students from Panjab University will be going early 2018 to SEWA for internships. This MoU will further the relationship of the University and SEWA Bharat.
