For RV manufacturers, the bumpy ride from the Great Recession has disappeared from the rearview mirror. The industry estimates shipments to dealers will top 500,000 units this year.

The industry is pointing to favorable fuel prices, solid consumer demand and available credit for its unprecedented growth.

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association says shipments from manufacturers to dealers are expected to increase 17.4 percent to 505,600 units in 2017.

The group says shipments are up for towables as well as for stand-alone motor homes.

RVIA President Frank Hugelmeyer says all key indicators "point to an open road ahead." The industry is projecting shipments will reach 520,700 units in 2018.

Shipments sank to 165,700 in 2009.
