977 in fray for 89 Guj seats as polls begin from 9 Dec

As many as 977 candidates are in fray for the 89 seats across Saurashtra-Kutch and South Gujarat regions that will go for polling on 9th December, 2017 as part of the first phase of ensuing Gujarat Assembly polls. 

Of these candidates, bigwigs like Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani, former Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhvadia, Congress party’s national spokesman Shaktisinh Gohil, senior Ministers Babubhai Bokhiria, Chimanbhai Saparia and others.

Of the 33 districts of Gujarat, 19 will witness polling in the first phase. Voting will be held for other 14 district on 14th December.

According to State Chief Election Officer, BB Swain as many as 1,703 candidates filed their nominations for the first phase during November 14 to 21. Of these nominations 423 rejected during scrutiny by Election Commission officials on November 22 and 303 candidates decided to withdraw their nominations.

Major two political parties — BJP and Congress are contesting from all 89 constituencies across South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch regions. Delhi Chief Minister headed Aam Aadami Party, Sharad Pawar’s political outfit Nationalist Congress Party, Shankersinh Vaghela’s third front All India Hinduthan Party and tribal leader Chhotu Vavasa’s newly formed party dedicated to tribal people too are trying their luck.
