Brain Stormer: Sakshi-India’s Rio Moment

Sakshi’s win in the Rio Olympic is bringing a great joy to the 125 crore people of this country. Now we are waiting for another surprise from Sindhu in Badminton. Hope she brings the gold for India. Sakshi’s big surprise was a real boost for the huge Indian contingent in Rio where some of them are still struggling for a slot in the Olympic’s medal tally. Why India is not performing despite having a huge team? What are the nagging problems that are troubling Indian sportsperson year after year? It is time now the Government must examine the real issues and address the problems of the sportspersons at the earliest.

Whereas neighbouring China is doing excellent and bagging slots in almost all the big games, why not India? Last almost a fortnight, India was finishing agonizing fourth in many sports and at times abject surrenders in some. It is not a small issue, the Government should ponder over it and organize a core meeting with all the sportspersons and as well as concerned coaches in the respective fields.

After a long wait, the Sakshi moment came and at least now, the big nation will not come home empty handed. With her, wrestling has risen as the biggest sport that can bag medal in games like Olympics. The other reality for Sakshi’s maiden entry to the game is a sad moment-that is her family was insulted in public by the locals for allowing her to participate in a game like wrestling. Imagine, we are country proud of our freedom and equality as enshrined in our Constitution, whereas at the same time we are the same people who are not ready to give due regard to our womenfolk.

What an irony? India must wake up to respect its women and Sakshi’s hometown, Rohtak must give a salute to this young wrestler for sure. She can create magic and lets all pay due respect to her. Women power, no less than a miracle. Sakshi has finally proved it all the way.
