Fire crews say a three-alarm fire that broke out inside a building on Tuesday morning in northeast Calgary has been brought under control.
Officials say they were called to the incident, on 23 Street N.E., at approximately 9:15 a.m.
"When fire crews did arrive, they did see fire and smoke," said Carol Henke, public information officer with the CFD. "Due to the potential hazards inside this business, it was upgraded to a second alarm."
She says the incident was upgraded again, to a third alarm, so firefighters could provide further support at the scene.
40 workers were forced out of the business, but luckily no one was injured.
Henke says the fire is under control and the building is being ventilated as crews look for hotspots.
She says the business does some chrome work at that process uses a number of different chemicals that are considered to be hazardous when exposed to fire.
Buses were brought in to shelter the workers while firefighters remain at the scene.
