President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the "National Award for Divyangjan, 2017" at a function organized by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December, 2017 in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, stated an official release.
According
to the release, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment,
Thaawarchand Gehlot; Minister of States for Social Justice and
Empowerment, Krishan Pal Gurjar and Ramdas Athawale will also be
present the occasion.

Kovind with present National Awards to Individuals, Institutions,
Organisations, State/District etc for their outstanding achievements
and work done towards empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. The
National Awards are presented in 14 main categories.
Last
year, the Parliament passed "The Rights of Persons with
Disabilities Bill - 2016" to replace the PwD Act, 1995 to treat
'Disability' as an evolving and dynamic concept and the types of
disabilities have been increased from 7 to 21.
The
21 recognized disabilities are: Blindness; Low-vision; Leprosy Cured
persons; Hearing Impairment (deaf and hard of hearing); Locomotor
Disability; Dwarfism; Intellectual Disability; Mental Illness; Autism
Spectrum Disorder; Cerebral Palsy; Muscular Dystrophy; Chronic
Neurological conditions; Specific Learning Disabilities; Multiple
Sclerosis; Speech and Language disability; Thalassemia; Haemophilia;
Sickle Cell disease; Multiple Disabilities including deaf blindness;
Acid Attack victim; and Parkinson's disease.
