Vijayakanth at Chennai airport today
Asked about the unprecedented restrictions imposed by the Election Commission in the constituency, where by-poll was cancelled earlier this year following large scale malpractices, the actor-turned-politician said he did not see any wrong in the EC's move.
"Only those who are involved in distribution of money to voters would only criticise the Election Commission for its rules and regulations," Vijayakanth, who is also the general secretary of the party, said.
The 'Captain', as he is called by his supporters, took a flight to Singapore from the Chennai airport today. He was accompanied by his wife Premalatha and brother-in-law L K Sudeesh, both leaders of the DMDK.
Though party sources had claimed that he left for Singapore a few days ago for medical check-up, he did it only today. In a statement late last week, the DMDK headquarters said, "our party's founder-president and general secretary, Captain Vijayakanth, has regular habit of undergoing health check-up once in a year. Like in the past, this year too, he would be in Singapore for a week for the general medical check-up."
