Ludhiana: In a span of just one week, another major fire incident was reported in the city on Sunday night. The fire broke out in an ink factory in Daulat Colony near Kripal Nagar in Ludhiana. This incident comes close on the heels of two other fire incidents, which took place in Ludhiana recently.
Sources said that after the death of nine firemen in the recent Amarson Polymers factory building collapse incident in Mushtaqganj at Suffian Chowk on November 20, the firemen did not enter the factory premises here to control the situation on Sunday. Instead, they remained outside and controlled the fire with the help of foam.
The fire brigade received the phone call about the incident around 8.55pm on Sunday from a resident. The fire officials said that short circuit might be the reason behind the fire. The residents also vacated their houses fearing any untoward incident. The residents said that the factory was closed from the past few days. There is a hosiery unit on the first floor. The fire broke out on the ground floor. There was some stock of chemicals and thinner inside.
The residents also said that on the ground floor a blast took place, which led to the fire. However, fire was controlled before it could reach the hosiery unit, which belonged to some other owner. The sub-fire officer KL Kakkar said that they have brought the situation under control. He also said that the explosion took place in the drums filled with thinner. He said that around 12 fire tenders were used in fighting the fire.
