The I-T department conductied fresh raids in Chennai, on Tuesday

Chennai: Income-tax raids are back in the city after a break, as I-T sleuths, on Tuesday, searched more than 30 places, including premises of promoters of SPI Cinemas, which runs Satyam group of theaters. According to sources, the raids, which started on Tuesday morning, were going on simultaneously at theatres, mall, offices and houses of those linked with SPI Group and others.

"Search operations are on... The officials are carrying out searches in the premises of Marg group, S2, and Millennium," the IT official told IANS, preferring anonymity.

According to him, this was a follow-up of the IT Department's search operations carried out in 187 premises belonging to the relatives of Sasikala and their business organisations.

The raid comes days after the IT officials carried out that massive search operation and unearthed Rs 1,430 crore of tax evasion.

Following which the IT Department raided the residence of late Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J.Jayalalithaa.
