Seek permission to revamp it

Muslim leaders from Tamil Nadu led by the Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, president, The Muslim Educational Association of Southern India (MEASI), called on the Minister for Education K.A. Sengottaiyan and the Labour and Wakf Minister Nilofer Kafeel, at the Secretariat, and expressed their concern over the state of the Madrasa-e-Azam Higher Secondary School for Boys, according to a press release.

The school, which was founded by an ancestor of the Prince of Arcot was in dilapidated state, the release said. The Prince of Arcot asked Mr. Sengottaiyan if they may be permitted to set up a modern and well-equipped school, open to all, with English, Tamil and Urdu, as part of the curriculum.

Even recently, the Prince of Arcot recollected how the Nawabs of the Carnatic/Arcot gave the land and buildings for the school to the British government in 1849 for the education of Muslim children and other deserving students. During the recent rains in the city, a part of the school’s structure even collapsed.

He also appealed to the Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to hand over the school to the Prince of Arcot Endowments.
