In a television interview yesterday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry vowed to protect the identity of the person who introduced the couple in July last year. 

The couple confirmed the matchmaker was a woman during an interview about their engagement with BBC presenter Mishal Husain.

Prince Harry told Mishal: “We were introduced by a mutual friend who we will…”

However, Meghan interrupted and said: “We should protect her privacy and not reveal too much of that.”

The future Duke of Sussex continued: “It was through her and we met once and then twice, back to back on two dates in London last July.”

The interview dispelled speculation that they had been set up by Meghan’s Canadian friend Markus Anderson, who joined the pair at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in October.

It is believed that one mutual friend who could have set them up might be Millie Mackintosh - the former Made in Chelsea star - who Meghan has grown close to.

They spent time together at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire last year and the bride-to-be said on Instagram: “The best afternoon with Millie Mackintosh. So proud of you darling.”

Another potential matchmaker could be fashion designer Misha Nonoo who has a fashion line under her own name.

She was married for four years to former Etonian Alexander Gilkes, who knows Prince Harry from his Eton days. 

The couple were guests to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011 and Alexander’s younger brother dated Pippa Middleton for several years.

The fashion designer is a mutual friend of both Prince Harry and Meghan, so there is a likely chance she introduced the Royal couple.

The Suits actress worn Misha Nonoo’s Easy 8 Husband Shirt to the first public appearance with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games and has been seen in several of her outfits, including a silver dress at a Vogue party. 

Meghan said she asked the mystery royal matchmaker just one question before the blind date “Is he nice?”.

They explained after their first date they made plans to each other the next day and the Prince managed to persuade Meghan to join him in Botswana.

“We camped out with each other under the stars - she came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic,” Prince Harry said.
