Korba Thermal Power Plant could now be reinstated in case of blackout within just 15 minutes with the help of proving start up power from the hydel power plant of Bango.

A mock drill regarding it was successfully carried put on Sunday as a precautionary measure to combat in an emergency situation.

According to information from official sources in Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company, the mock-drill was held by engineers of Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission, Generation, and of Distribution Companies jointly under monitoring of experts from Western Regional Load Dispatch Centre, Mumbai. Managing Director of Transmission Company Tripti Sinha led the mock-drill.

It was gauged in the mock-drill that within 15 minutes, the Korba Thermal Power Plant could overcome from the situation of blackout. The exercise assured the immediate power supply in the case of failure in Inter State Power Grid, sources informed.

The hydel power and gas generated power plant are able to provide this start up power as they need very less time to start.

Thus to combat the situation of blackout in western grid the Chhattisgarh’s Bango Hydel Power Plant has been earmarked for reestablishing the power,  sources said.

Notably that states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh are linked in the Western Power Grid.

A Power consumption of 42,000 megawatt is recorded in them and there is a big challenge to maintain normalcy if there is any problem in the grid. A problem was witnessed in the northern and eastern power grid on July 30-31 in 2012 and 21 states were affected with the black out.

The western power grid which the Chhattisgarh is a part though remained unaffected but the western grid is too gearing itself to combat such an unpleasant situation of blackout and that was why the mock-drill was being done, sources, said.
