BENGALURU: A controversy is looming over the Department of Pre-university Education after it appointed a person, whose daughter is appearing for her second year PUC examinations, as personal secretary to the department director, in violation of its examination rules.
The secretary was transferred from the examination section recently as department rules stipulate that employees whose children are appearing for the final examinations should be kept away from the examination section and any work related to examinations.
A senior department official said, “Transferring the person from the examination to personal section is not a solution, because even confidential communications to the director first reaches the personal section.”
But department director C Shika clarified that the personal section would not be involved in any confidential work, including examinations.
Earlier, the department had transferred an officer from the examination section to the postal section for the same reason. “When another staffer has been moved out of the examination section giving the reason that his kid is appearing for exams, why does this not apply to the director’s secretary?” asked staffers in the examination section. Now a group of them have decided to approach the director urging her to remove the personal secretary. If the director ignores their request, they plan to take the matter to higher authorities.
When Harish Gowda was director, his child had to appear for the PUC final examinations. That time he had requested the government for a transfer, and he was away for at least six months.
