Man booked for burning religious flags

RAJKOT: Four religious flags hoisted by a member of the minority community were burned down by a miscreant at Shramjivi Society in Bedipara area of Rajkot. The incident occurred on Saturday night, while the complaint in this connection was lodged on Sunday night.


According to the officials of Thorala police station, who booked the accused identified as Satish Tolia, a resident of Ravanchowk in Rajkot. Tolia allegedly pulled down four religious flags bearing 'Eid-E-Milad' written in Urdu script, celebrating Eid festival, and set them ablaze in front of Mehboob Sheikh (24) who had hoisted them.


"The incident occurred on Saturday night. Tolia fled from the spot after committing the crime. We have booked him under sections 295 (K) and 504 of Indian Penal Code on the complaint of Sheikh for insulting a religion and hurting religious sentiments," said an official of Thorala police station, adding that a manhunt had been launched against Tolia.
