‘LPG plant plan may hit biodiversity in Puthuvype’
The rich biodiversity at Puthuvype maybe damaged once the LPG project at Puthuvype becomes operational, states a rapid assessment study conducted by Salim Ali Foundation, Thrissur. The study, carried out in four days in Puthuvype by a team led by biologist and former chairman of state biodiversity board V S Vijayan, noted that the project may cause damage to 204 species of plants, 138 species of birds and 21 species of fishes in the project area.The 62-page report presents the probable impact of the LPG plant on the biodiversity, ecology, geomorphology, environment and socio-economics in the region.
