Newcastle news: Manchester United ace Luke Shaw in talks over January loan move

NEWCASTLE are in talks with Manchester United defender Luke Shaw about a loan move in January.

Shaw looks set to leave Manchester United when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Despite being fully fit, the England international has found himself out in the cold with Jose Mourinho often preferring to leave the 22-year-old out of the squad.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been tipped to end his Old Trafford nightmare.

But TransferMarketWeb say Shaw is looking likelier to join Newcastle instead with Rafa Benitez determined to get a deal over the line.

Newcastle are set to receive a cash influx once Amanda Staveley’s takeover is completed.

Current owner Mike Ashley has always been frugal when it comes to funds but, with Shaw available, a deal is looking likelier to be struck.

TransferMarketWeb say Newcastle have already approached Shaw’s representatives about making the move to St James’ Park.

And United are likely to offer little resistance to any deal.

The Red Devils defender was signed as a replacement for Patrice Evra back in 2014, arriving from Southampton where he built a reputation as one of the most promising players in the country.

But things have gone wrong ever since.

Louis van Gaal often publicly criticised Shaw to the extent that senior United players were forced to comfort the young defender.

And a serious leg injury sustained in September 2015 also appears to have set the former Southampton man back.

Meanwhile, speaking recently, Mourinho admitted he was more concerned about Marouane Fellaini’s contract situation than Shaw’s, whose deal expires in 2018.

"I'm worried about Fellaini and not about Luke Shaw because Fellaini finishes his contract and Luke Shaw doesn't," Mourinho said.
