As the Aam Aadmi Party celebrated its fifth anniversary on Sunday, the Delhi Congress said the party had broken its promises to Delhiites.

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said the AAP, which was formed on November 26, 2012, had not only betrayed the public by breaking promises but also indulged in corrupt practices.

Referring to the AAP government’s 49-day rule in 2013-2014, Mr. Maken said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had resigned in February 2014 citing the inability to table the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Delhi Assembly due to the Congress and the BJP.

“After getting an unprecedented mandate in 2015, Mr. Kejriwal chose to table a diluted Jan Lokpal Bill. He was afraid that if the 2014 version of the Bill was passed, then he, his Ministers and MLAs could be behind bars on corruption charges,” said Mr. Maken.

He added that the AAP had broken its promises of not using government houses and vehicles, not taking security cover, not indulging in corruption and increasing public participation and transparency.
