I-T department slaps Rs. 30cr notice on Kejriwal's AAP

I-T department has served a Rs. 30cr notice to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's AAP.

The department claims that the party didn't disclose income worth Rs. 13cr and didn't record details of the 462 donors who donated Rs. 6cr to the party.

What are the I-T department's allegations against AAP?

In May, the I-T department had sent a show-cause notice to AAP for tampering with its account books and evading tax on donations received in 2014.

As per investigations, AAP didn't declare Rs. 30cr received from mostly overseas donors for 2014-15.

They were reportedly given "34 chances" to explain but only misled the I-T probe.

I-T has pegged AAP's taxable income at Rs. 68cr.

As was the response in May, Kejriwal alleged that the tax crackdown was part of Centre's "strategy to prosecute AAP."

AAP's Rajeev Chaddha tweeted that AAP is the only party to maintain "100 per cent propriety, transparency and compliance in its funding."

He said this is BJP's "vendetta" against a "political toddler called AAP as they declare all our donations illegal."
