PUNE: Former deputy chief minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Wednesday said demonetisation and GST have caused major losses to the field of art, culture and cinema.

Pawar said the BJP government at the Centre has failed to implement GST, leading to major complications at every level.

"Common people are facing immense hardships because of the BJP government's illogical moves. Businesses are yet to recover from the negative impact of haphazard implementation of GST," he said while addressing party workers after announcing appointments in the NCP's cultural wing here.

"Besides other sectors, the field of culture and art has suffered because of GST and demonetisation," he said, urging the party's newly appointed cultural wing to work for the artists' welfare.

He asked the committee members to take up issues related to having an "artist house" here and push the civic body to form a cultural panel.
