Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Going for broke” (November 10). The smog that has engulfed Delhi and some parts of north India is mainly because of stubble burning by farmers in neighbouring areas. Resultantly, smoke gets trapped in the layers of lower atmosphere, which leads to extremely toxic air.
Particulate matter enters the blood stream through the lungs, which causes serious health problems. Besides, greenhouse gases to pollution levels in a big way. Authorities in Delhi are trying various options to keep a check on high pollution levels but keeping in view the enormity of the problem, steps should have been taken before the air quality became so poor.
