University of Hyderabad Chair Professor is president of International Geological Congress

HYDERABAD: The Cabinet committee of the Government of India has appointed Dr Vijay Prasad Dimri as the president of the 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) to be held in India in 2020. Dr Dimri is presently the Dr Homi J Bhabha Chair Professor at the Centre for Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences in University of Hyderabad. 

The IGC provides a platform for discussing various thematic issues related to planet Earth like dynamics and evolution, resources for future generations, natural hazards, environment degradation and climate change. Around 10,000 scientists from across the world are expected to participate in the 36th edition of IGC. Prior to becoming chair professor in UoH, Dr Dimri had served as Director of National Geophysical Research Institute.
