Una on high alert for dengue

DHARAMSHALA: With the cases of dengue on the rise in Punjab and Delhi, Una district of Himachal Pradesh that shares its borders with Punjab has been put on high alert. The health department has detected more than a dozen positive cases positive in the area.


Una senior medical officer (SMO) Dr. Rampal said that steps had been taken to curb the situation. "Thousands of the people of this area in routine travel to Delhi, Chandigarh, Baddi and Nalagarh due to which it is suspected that disease might spread in Una too. The department is focusing on the industrial area of the district. The situation at present is under control and we are taking precautionary measures," he said.


Most of the positive cases have been from outside the state. With people in panic about the situation, referral cases have also seen an increase in the main hospitals of Una district. "People suffering from minor fever are going for all kind of blood tests in fear of dengue. Local hospitals of the area have been instructed to refer cases to the main hospital in case of doubt," said an official of the health department.


Eateries are the worst sufferers as people are avoiding eating outside after the health department has sounded an alert. "Footfall has reduced after people in fear of dengue. We hope that soon we will overcome of this panic among masses. however, sale of packaged drinking water has increased," said Sanju Sharma, who owns a restaurant in Una.
