Bruce looking ahead

7.45pm: Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce already has his eyes on Friday’s game against Leeds United.

“I watched them on the TV today and they're a good side,” he said.

“They've got some good players up the top end of the pitch. We'll have to defend well.

“We're also playing well ourselves, which makes for a cracking game at Elland Road.”

Coleman's Sunderland joy

7.15pm: Chris Coleman hailed his substitutes as Sunderland beat Burton Albion to climb off the bottom of the table.

James Vaughan opened the scoring on 84 minutes while Joel Asoro created George Honeyman’s goal four minutes later. 

"If we are going to get out of trouble it isn't just about the 11 on the pitch, you need the guys on the bench to come on and make an impact,” Coleman said. 

"That is what it is all about. They were outstanding when they came on today and I am really pleased for them.”

Jeremie Boga put Birmingham ahead at half time but Leon Clarke levelled late on.

Sheffield United stay third in the Championship table, seven points off leaders Wolves.

10.35am: The big game in the Championship today is the Yorkshire derby between Barnsley and Leeds.

Thomas Christiansen’s side have had less time to recover, and he said: “When you play late on a Wednesday, arriving home at 2:00am and have an early game on a Saturday it is difficult to recover completely.

“This is the way the schedule is, it is not in our favour, but we have to go out, make a good game and do what we need, to get the three points.”

Leeds striker injured

1.20pm: Pierre-Michel Lasogga has been ruled out of tomorrow’s game against Barnsley. 

Lasogga missed Leeds’ last two fixtures against Middlesbrough and Wolves with the club claiming the Hamburg loanee was ill but Thomas Christiansen has now revealed he picked up a knock in training. 

Klich’s Twitter mystery

12.55pm: Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich appears to have been left out of Thomas Christiansen’s squad for tomorrow’s trip to Barnsley (12.30pm).

Poland international Klich, snapped up from FC Twente in the summer transfer window, has made just one start in the Championship this season. 

And the 27-year-old has taken to Twitter after the final training session ahead of the Oakwell clash to post the Ryan Reynolds facepalm gif. 

Villa’s royal transfer

11.50am: Steve Bruce has been told to complete the permanent signing of Sam Johnstone… by Prince William.

Manchester United keeper Johnstone, 24, is on a season-long loan with the Championship club.

"I was very honoured to meet the future king and the princess, it's one of the perks of a job like this,” Bruce said. 

"It's remarkable to have him as a fan and he knows a great deal about the club.

"He was very keen that I tie up the future of Sam Johnstone!"

Bradshaw car crash

11.00am: Barnsley forward Tom Bradshaw is a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Leeds after a “nasty” car accident.

Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom said: “Bradders was involved in a car accident last night (Wednesday), so he is going to miss training, but hopefully he will be alright,” Heckingbottom said. 

“It was a nasty one and his car was written off. 

“He has got a bruised back and things like that, so he won’t be training today. But he is adamant that he will be alright (for Saturday). 

“Sometimes, the stiffness and soreness comes the day after, but hopefully he will be ok.”

Goodman’s Leeds warning

10.00am: Leeds need to start winning ugly if they are to challenge for promotion, according to Championship pundit Don Goodman.

Goodman said: “If you’re going to get promoted or be at the top end of the Championship you have to learn to win games of football when you’re not quite playing as well as you can. 

“I’m not sure Leeds have done that so far this season. 

“They concede the first goal, they’ve lost every game. That needs to change.”

Grayson’s Leeds issue

8.00am: Leeds United lack the consistency to win promotion from the Championship, according to Simon Grayson. 

“It’s the nature of the Championship that anybody can beat anybody,” Grayson said on EFL Matters. 

“You’ve got to be on your game week in and week out and consistency is the key to the teams that get promoted and end up in the play-offs. 

“Leeds have maybe not got that consistency.”

Watmore injury blow

7.30am: Sunderland forward Duncan Watmore is set to miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery. 

"This season probably won't happen for him," Black Cats boss Chris Coleman said. 

"I told Duncan on Sunday, 'if it's bad news then the worst thing you can do is put a time on it', but he'll be chasing time as he'll want to be back.

"Life is frustrating sometimes as he's desperate to play football and desperate to play for Sunderland.

Onomah's Tottenham aim

7.00am: Aston Villa loanee Josh Onomah is determined to break into the Tottenham first team.

Onomah is on loan at Villa Park for the season but he already has his eyes on a return to Spurs. 

“Obviously I want to do well here and help Villa get promoted, then go back to my parent club and get back in the team,” he said.

“There is a lot of competition but that is football for you. You have to take it on board.”

Leeds starlet's deal

6.30am: Leeds United starlet Jack Clarke has signed his first professional contract.

The 17-year-old striker has committed his future to the Whites until 2021. 

“We are pleased with Jack's progress to date and we have rewarded him with a longer term contract,” director of football Victor Orta said. 

"He will remain a part of the U18 and U23 set up in the immediate future and we will continue to monitor his progress closely.     

“Our academy is famous for producing some of the best talent in the country and we are confident Jack is just one of many young, local players who can be a part of the future of our club."
