PATNA: Contractual teachers and librarians of the state's primary, secondary and higher secondary schools on Friday threatened to gherao the state assembly on November 29 to press for their 'equal pay for equal work' demand.
Pradeep Kumar Pappu, chairman of Shikshak Sangharsh Morcha and president of Bihar State Primary Teachers' Association, said the Supreme Court and Patna high court have made it clear that there should be equal pay for equal work for contractual teachers and librarians, but the state government has not taken any step on its implementation.
Pappu said around 4 lakh contractual teachers and librarians of the state's primary, secondary and higher secondary schools would gherao the state assembly on November 29 as the state of education in the state has deteriorated and the state government appears to have ignored the situation from getting bad to worse.
"Various teachers' associations are ready to launch a decisive war against the state government. Quality of education has deteriorated in the state and schoolchildren are not being provided books. The contractual teachers, on the other hand, have not been getting deserved payment despite working hard," Pappu said.
