Bonanza for the Tamil Nadu as Gadkari approves projects worth Rs 1Lakh crore

CHENNAI: Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday sanctioned Rs 1 lakh crore-worth projects relating to laying of new national highways, elevated corridor projects, building logistics park and improving Tuticorin Port to ensure mother vessels enter the port and several water-related projects.

Addressing a press conference along with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Gadkari said he would sanction all projects that the Chief Minister demanded, highlighting the mutual goodwill. A jubilant Chief Minister said this was the first time the State got such a huge amount of projects approved by the Centre.

Gadkari said he had sanctioned Rs 60,000 crore worth road projects for the State. This included three elevated corridor projects for Chennai costing around Rs 5,000 crore as well as widening of roads from Tambaram to Vandalur and Vandalur to Guduvanchery and the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway.
