Jamnabai Narsee in semis thanks to trio

Strikers Ahaana Kanakia, Aavritti Gupta and goalkeeper Vanshika Shah's collective effort helped Jamnabai Narsee School (Vile Parle) register a 6-4 win over Canossa High School (Mahim) in the tie-breaker to reach the semi-finals of the Mumbai Schools Sports Associations (MSSA)-organised U-14 girls Div II football tournament at Azad Maidan on Saturday. Bhumika Mane continued her goal-scoring spree for Canossa and opened the account in the fourth minute. Jamnabai equalised in the ninth minute via Ahaana's goal.

After switching sides, Bhumika scored again in the 24th minute to help the Mahim outfit take a 2-1 lead. The Vile Parle team restored parity in the 33rd minute through Aavritti's goal. The game finished 2-2 at end of the final whistle as the game headed into the tie-breaker. With Canossa's ouster, Bhumika's impressive run came to an end. The striker scored 22 goals from six outings. "I'm happy with my goals, but the team's success is important. I'm disappointed that we lost the game," Bhumika said.
