As a run-up to the Navy Week 2017 activities, a visit to the naval base by around 1,500 students, along with their teachers, from 15 schools, was organised by INS Venduruthy on Thursday.

The schoolchildren arrived in batches and were given a conducted tour of the Naval ships Tir and Sujata, where they witnessed a number of Naval activities. The children were especially enthralled with the demonstration of the complete dis-assembly and re-assembly of small arms onboard these ships.

An exhibition of different kinds of naval equipment was also held inside the base for the students, to instil in them a sense of pride in the Navy and also acquaint them with various Naval activities. The exhibition, which was coordinated by the Naval Institute of Aviation Technology, Seamanship and Diving Schools of the Southern Naval Command (SNC), showcased dummy bombs, rocket launchers, equipment for safety at sea, diving equipment, models of ships, robots and seamanship procedures.

The high point of the visit was a breathtaking display of “continuity drill” by the Naval warriors of INS Dronacharya, wherein the squad executed a series of precise drill movements in unison, without a single word of command being given.
