Violators to shell out double of penalty for wrong parking

The denizens of the provisional State capital Dehradun would now to shell out double penalty if their wrongly parked vehicle is towed away by the traffic policemen.

For towing off a car the traffic police would now impose a penalty of Rs 1,000 while an amount of Rs 700 would be taken as towing charge for a wrongly parked two-wheeler.

Addressing media persons here on Friday the Additional Inspector General (AIG) traffic, Kewal Khurana said that lack of awareness is one of the main reasons for traffic related problems.

He said that the department has earmarked the places where traffic snarls or bottlenecks are there. Khurana made an appeal for the general public to come forward and participate in the drive to strengthen the traffic system in Dehradun. He said that a road safety and awareness week would be organised in Dehradun from November 27 to December 3. The week is being organised under joint aegis of Dehradun police, pacific mall and Max hospital. Programmes like Plays wall, graffiti wall, BK Rally and flash mob would be organised during the week. On December 3, a carnival on Rajpur road diversion would be organised. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Nivedita Kukreti, central director Pacific mall Kinjal Radia and General Manager of Max hospital Ronald Kiran May were also present on the occasion.
