The University of Calicut has won the sixth position among Indian universities in the latest Brics University Rankings. The university has won the 18th position among the country’s higher education institutions that included Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
When Calicut University topped among the universities in the State, its overall ranking among Brics nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) rose to 114th position.
Several criteria such as academic excellence and specialty, respect given by industry firms offering jobs, student-teacher ratio, teacher skills and quality, international student representation, webometrics rankings, number of teachers with doctoral degrees, number of journals and publications, and excellence in research were considered for the Brics rankings.
The top institutions that ranked above Calicut University in India were IIT Bombay, IISC Bangalore, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, Delhi University, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University, Mumbai University, Anna University, IIT Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, IIT Patna, and BITS Pilani.
Calicut University Vice Chancellor K. Mohammed Basheer congratulated his colleagues, staff and students on the university campus on the achievement. He said the changes adopted by the university in tune with the changing times had helped the institution achieve top ranking.
