Ramadoss also urges producers to approach banks for funding

PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday urged the film industry to debate and bring down the production cost and approach banks for financing rather than relying on moneylenders.

One of the preconditions set by banks while lending was transparency and because of this many producers were not able to avail loans, he said in a statement.

Mr. Ramadoss also noted that lot of producers had been banking on stars than content and were spending huge amounts of money to make movies, which was irrational.

He added that recently low-budget movies without any big names had done well at the box office. “The film industry is not about just a few producers, directors and actors. Many families depend on it for their livelihood. So the industry should be run like a business and not like a betting industry,” Mr. Ramadoss said.

He called for the arrest of the Madurai-based distributor and film financier Anbu Chezhiyan who has been blamed for producer Ashok Kumar’s suicide.

Mr. Ramadoss also demanded a probe into previous incidents linked to the financier.
