One dead, 5 injured after building collapsed in Bhiwandi

THANE: One died and five were injured after ground plus three storeyed illegal building collapsed in Bhiwandi on Friday morning.

The Bhiwandi-Nizampura Municiapal Corporation team who reached at spot for rescue work suspect two to three people are still trapped inside debris.

Along with local civic rescue team, NDRF, Thane Fire brigade and Mumbai Fire Brigade team also has joined rescue operation.

Rescue team said that due to narrow lanes and chawl area, they are facing difficulties in the rescue operation.


The one who died was identified as Ruksar Yakub Khan while 5 injured rescued from debris were rushed to the IGM hospital in Bhiwandi where their treatment is on.


The 15 year old building is said to be illegal and is owned by Tahir Bijnori who also got injured in the mishap. He was residing with his wife on first floor based apartment.


Total seven flats and one shop were inside the building out of which two flats were vacant. During the rescue operation, one NDRF team member also suffered minor injuries on his hand.


Ashok Rankhamb, commissioner of Bhiwandi-Nizampura Municiapal Corporation said, "The building was illegally constructed on forest land and notice was served by civic body". Eknath Shinde, PWD Minister visited IGM hospital in Bhiwandi to meet the injured.
