Sports Ministry nod to set up shooting range

The Union Sports Ministry has agreed to the proposal of Uttarakhand Government to set up a shooting range in the State. Union Minister of State for sports Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Rtd) gave this acceptance when Chief Minister (CM) of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat called on him in New Delhi on Friday. Rathore told the CM that Uttarakhand is a virtual mine of sporting talent.

 He said that planned development of sport infrastructure in the state can yield wonderful results in future. Rawat told the union minister that world class facility are being provided in the under construction International sports complex at Haldwani in Nainital district. An international cricket stadium, indoor stadium, swimming pool and outdoor sports field are being developed in the complex.

 The CM requested that a college of sports coaching and sports management should be set up in Haldwani. He said that an outdoor stadium in Ransi at Pauri has been constructed. Work on laying of 400 meter athletics track, pavilion and hostel for sportspersons is complete. He said that since Ransi is located at a height of 6000 feet above sea level a High altitude centre should be opened there. 

The CM said that a proposal for setting up infrastructural facilities and their management in view of proposed 38th National games in the state has been sent to ministry of Youth programe and sports. Discussions in ways to increase sports infrastructure in the Maharana Pratap Sports stadium in Raipur, Dehradun were also held. The duo also dwelt on the possibility of holding cricketing events on the ground.
