MUMBAI: Sports marketing firm Baseline Ventures has signed up Prithvi Shaw, an 18-year-old right-hand batsman often touted as India’s next Sachin Tendulkar.

The multi-year deal will see Baseline managing all the commercial interests of Shaw.

The batsman, who is expected to lead the India Under-19 team in the ICC U-19 World Cup in New Zealand next year, has been in great form in the latest first-class matches. He has hit five centuries in his first seven first-class matches. Interestingly, three of the centuries have come in the ongoing Ranji season. Only Tendulkar has scored more (seven) centuries as an 18-year-old in first-class cricket in India.

Prior to Baseline, Shaw was managed by Sunil Gavaskar’s sports marketing company Professional Management Group (PMG). However, since Gavaskar had to shut down talent management business because of conflict of interest, multiple talent management companies have been trying to sign with Shaw.

"I am happy to be on board of Baseline Ventures. They manage some of the top talents of the country and I look forward to a great partnership with Baseline," Shaw said.

Sports management firms try to scout talent who could make big at the national and international level. Baseline has come out as one of the top talent management agencies, having spotted PV badminton players PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth, cricketer Smriti Mandhana and film actor Zaira Wasim in their early days. The company also manage cricketer Ravindra Jadeja and billiards player Pankaj Advani.

“We are extremely delighted to sign up Prithvi and we welcome him to our Baseline family,” managing director Tuhin Mishra told ET. “It's a proud moment for us. He's an exceptional talent and we look forward to working closely with him.”
