LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Creative freedom

Sir — Like most films, Padmavati too is a work of fiction. Nowhere any film claims to be a true-life incident or represents true history. It may be based on some facts but always, a disclaimer is to be found at the begginning of the film which says that it does not represent facts of any personal life/historical facts.
Films are, in fact, creative art pieces. Ultimately, is is the Central Board of Film Certification which has to decide whether the film is fit for public viewing or not. In my opinion, Padmavati, must be screened all over India and if need be there should be police protection. Those indulging in violence must be taken into custody. People may have objections to a film, but resorting to violence is not the solution. It is unfortunate that the film release date is deferred under the threat.
